Ashley Hall is pleased to announce that Tami Dennis will join the School’s Athletics Department as Track & Field Coach beginning this January. A seasoned instructor with more than 15 years of coaching experience, Mrs. Dennis comes to Ashley Hall with numerous credentials including induction into the Road Runners’ Club of America (RRCA) Hall of Fame and the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame. She currently leads the nationally recognized Mt. Pleasant Track Club.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tami Dennis to Ashley Hall,” says Athletic Director, Franny Slay. “She brings a wealth of experience with her. I’m thrilled our girls will have the opportunity to learn and grow as student athletes under her guidance.” Mrs. Dennis echoed the sentiment by sharing how excited she was to be joining a program with such a strong tradition and reputation of excellence.

In 1989 Mrs. Dennis founded the “Footsteps to Fitness” after-school running program in Spartanburg County. She started with one elementary school with 150 kids involved. By 2002, 38 schools (both elementary and middle schools) were involved with over 2,500 kids running weekly for the entire school year. This program was recognized in Runner’s World with their Golden Shoe Award. A spin off from this program was the competitive track team, the Spartanburg Striders which produced numerous All-Americans and two National Champions.

Mrs. Dennis was recruited to start the Mt. Pleasant Track Club when her family moved to Charleston 15 years ago. The program includes more than 300 student athletes in track and 250 in cross country. The Mt. Pleasant Track Club recently won its 14th State Championship title, with numerous All-Americans and National Champions.

We look forward to beginning the next chapter for Ashley Hall Track & Field under the guidance of Coach Dennis.
