Ashley Hall is pleased to announce the addition of its new school-based Health Center led by Director of Ashley Hall Health Services —and alumna!—Tiffin Dowling Lamoreaux ’01. “Think of it as Ashley Hall’s Urgent Care Center,” says Tiffin. Research shows that more students return to class after visiting a school-provided nurse practitioner versus a school nurse. There are many medical conditions that may have previously required a parent to take their child to their primary care provider that can now be managed on campus thus allowing the child to remain at school. Tiffin will work closely with primary care providers to ensure that there is continuity of care. “With a focus on preventive care and health maintenance, the goal is to keep our students healthy, so they can thrive in class.” The benefits of a school-based health center also extend to faculty and staff. By providing routine and preventative health maintenance as well as acute care, Tiffin can reduce faculty and staff related health-related absences and see lower out-of-pocket medical costs. It’s a winning proposition campus wide.

In her tenure as Head of School, which began in 2004, Jill Muti has overseen the transformation of Ashley Hall’s program and facilities strengthening its position as the premier independent girls’ school in the south and one of the top schools in the country. Continuing to elevate Ashley Hall’s stature on the national level, Mrs. Muti was recently nominated to the Board of Trustees of the National Coalition of Girls School, the national advocate for girls’ education and leadership. She also is an active board member of the Headmistresses Association of the East and serves as a council member of the Heads Network, which is dedicated to advancing girls and womens’ leadership in independent schools across the nation. PQV to Mrs. Muti for her leadership and determination to establish Ashley Hall as a national leader in purposeful education for young women.

Loyalty Fund Week is a time when the entire school community rallies together and shows support for Ashley Hall. Participation is the theme of this year’s campaign and we ask all Ashley Hall families to join in and participate in our annual fund on whatever level you feel appropriate for your family.

250 Participatory Gifts = An Extra $25,000!

This year, an anonymous donor has presented a challenge to us all. This donor has proposed a generous gift of $25,000 to the Loyalty Fund once 250 gifts have been received by the week’s end. This is why your gift, no matter the size, is more important than every!

For the 16th year, Ashley Hall has joyfully supported a campus-wide holiday gift-giving project for Chicora Elementary School located in North Charleston, where 95% of the student body is at, or below, poverty level. Nearly every Ashley Hall girl got into the spirit this year by bringing toys or clothes for these children. It took 26 cars and three small buses to transport the goodies to Chicora Elementary. Through the gracious support of the Ashley Hall community, nearly 500 children were given the gift of Christmas!

“I would like to thank the Loyalty Fund for allowing me to teach the joy of learning. Through the Loyalty Fund, I can teach innovative, hands-on, exploratory lessons which capture the students’ interest. I love seeing students challenged and the enthusiasm they experience when they solve a problem! Programming comes alive with the Arduino microcontrollers! Robotics allows the girls to think critically to solve problems! Because of the Loyalty Fund, our students are exposed to these unique subjects which they may choose to pursue as a career. The love of learning can incite interest in a future career. – Ashley Cook, Ashley Hall Faculty Member

Ashley Hall’s Early Education Center students are exposed to French daily through a communicative approach. Instructor, Madame Dardar, captures one-on-one videos throughout the year of the young students’ progress. In this brief video, you will see three year old Maisie Callahan and her mastery of French basics such as greetings, gender differentiation (boy versus girl), and identification of parts of the face. Très bien, Maisie! Click here to watch the video.
