Vanilla Radishes

Surprising results greeted the AP Environmental students who conducted a dose-response toxicology study. They investigated the effects of differing concentrations of three different chemicals, Miracle-Gro Fertilizer, Rubbing Alcohol, and Vanilla on the tendency of radish seeds to sprout. While most would assume the Miracle-Gro Fertilizer seeds would yield the most sprouts, it was in fact the seeds treated with Vanilla Extract who had the lowest mortality rate. The experiment demonstrated an important point about the relative toxicity of different chemicals that occur in the environment.
