Graduation Requirements

Minimum requirements for graduation are 24 credits, 20 of which are earned as follows:
  • 4 credits in English
  • 3 credits in the same foreign language
  • 4 credits in mathematics
  • 3 credits in laboratory science
  • 3 credits in history
  • 1 credit in an arts elective
  • 1 credit in physical education
  • 1 credit in computer science
Several credits can be earned during the 8th grade year (i.e., math and languages arts). A student can earn additional credits in arts and academic electives, enrichment courses, Red Choir and volunteer service. Credits from academic electives are used in computing a student's average. Students must carry six academic courses each year.

In order to progress in courses or to earn a credit toward a diploma, a student must have a passing average in each course. Advanced Placement courses have higher prerequisite averages and require approval from the department head as well as from the teacher. All students enrolled in an AP course who choose to sit for the exam, must pay for the exam.
