As part of the November series on Compassion, Ashley Hall faculty member Anne Rhett and junior, Macon Bianucci, shared with the students of Jenkins Hall their commitment to The Foundation For Tomorrow (TFFT), a non-profit group in Tanzania that provides scholarships for African orphans to attend boarding school in their home countries. TFFT's mission is to empower the future of developing nations by educating their youth. They support orphans who would not be able to receive a primary, secondary or tertiary education and they strive to create environments in which peace, health, and human welfare prosper as a result of a well educated population.
Both Ms. Rhett and Macon volunteered with the group in Tanzania, Ms. Rhett as a photo journalist and Macon as a volunteer and philanthropist in the actual orphanages. Both women shared their deep compassion and dedication to the group, spoke with resolve of the 46million African children who never have the opportunity to attend school and praised TFFT's determination to make a difference for the children who would seem the least likely to receive a helping hand.
Fratern Tarimo, TFFT's Managing Director for Tanzania, also shared his story with Upper School girls. Fratern is responsible for the leadership and day to day direction of TFFT's growing staff, volunteers and variety of foundation programs. He spoke of the challenges facing all African children but especially the orphans and abandoned children. He encouraged the girls to find their passion and the things in life that excited their compassion and to let themselves give to these. He shared that while they may not know what their great life's passion will be right now, that they need to always remain open to it.
