In Mrs. Kainz 6th Grade technology class girls
are learning how to create and share a podcast using Audacity, cross platform
software that runs on both Macs and PCs.
The girls began the study by using best practices of online research to find
STEAM related articles that piqued their interest. Once they found an article
that appealed to them, they took the information from the article and used it to
write a script. After recording their scripts they worked to edit not only the
voice tracks but also to utilize music in a way that would enhance their
message. Along the way Mrs. Kainz reiterated the importance of keeping their
podcasts fun and engaging both through scripts and keeping their delivery similar to how a radio personality would present. Learning and understanding these digital story
skills will serve the girls well as digital publishing continues to become much
more accessible. Once the podcasts
are complete parents will be able to enjoy them in Mrs. Kainz virtual classroom
on the Learning Commons.
