We are currently recruiting for the following position:
Children's Services Coordinator
The Children's Services Coordinator works with the Early Education Center and Lower School faculty on literacy curriculum planning and the Library Director to coordinate Lower School programming with general Library goals. This position is responsible for collaborating with teachers to provide classes with meaningful library visits.
Responsibilities Include:
- Welcome students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors to the Library
- Manage the front desk of the Lower School Library
- Review and evaluate books, reference works and databases for the Lower School Library
- Perform Lower School collection weeding and make replacement suggestions
- Prepare and distribute overdue notices and bill for lost materials
- Create thematic and new book displays
- Manage the Ashley Hall Birthday Club program
- Re-shelve and repair books as necessary
- Process new books for circulation
- Teach library organization and search skills to the Early Education and Lower School students
- Instruct students and parents to access the online library catalog and other age-appropriate databases
- Approach teachers proactively about book and research needs for classroom projects and ares of study
- Develop and supervise book clubs
- Target Lower School faculty with updates on new materials
- Inform teachers and parents about suggested reading titles
Minimum Requirements
- A MLS Degree from an ALA accredited school
- Knowledge of theories, objectives, principles and techniques of librarianship
- Experience working with younger students in a library setting
- Familiarity with children's and young adult's popular series and award-winning books
