Pardue Hall Language Arts

Reading and writing are the fundamentals of a rigorous classical education - Ashley Hall's signature for more than 100 years. Because literacy acquisition and developmentally appropriate language practices are so crucial in these formative years, Ashley Hall's Lower School curriculum focuses on each student achieving essential competencies in reading, writing and speaking. Our teachers combine strategies developed by the Sitton Spelling and the Lucy Calkins Writing programs to engage students in self-directed learning. Ashley Hall's Lower School librarian serves as our Literacy Programs Coordinator, working closely with students, teachers, and parents to make our excellent library a central and accessible resource for the Lower School Language Arts curriculum.
