The fifth graders visited the MUSC Biomechanics Rehabilitation Lab where rehabilitation therapy is done for a variety of neurological conditions, including stroke, spinal cord injury and cerebral palsy. Students compared their robotic arms made in class to the lab's arm made entirely out of Lego equipment and interfaced with their motion capture system, which allows the robot arm to be controlled by a person. MUSC's team of physical therapists, occupational therapists, bioengineers, and health specialists demonstrated different aspects of their cutting-edge equipment. Students compared active motor skeletons to the newest device, a passive motor exoskeleton. Student volunteers even tested a ZeroG mobile body weight support system in the Locomotor Rehabilitation Lab.
