Piano Instructor/Accompanist - 2013-2014 School Year

The Ashley Hall Applied Lesson program encourages character development, improves focus skills, and helps build self-esteem as students acquire the knowledge and skills needed to become proficient amateur musicians.  Ashley Hall seeks a Piano Instructor/Accompanist to join our full time faculty.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in all duties and responsibilities as a full time faculty member
  • Provide weekly private instruction to students with a balanced program of technique, repertoire and music skills
  • Develop individual programs of study for each student
  • Prepare students to play in school recitals and SCMEA or equivalent piano festivals
  • Communicate with parents, teachers and director as required.
  • Work with faculty to organize recitals and other school events.

Competencies

  • A Masters Degree in Piano Performance and/or Accompanying and a minimum of five years of teaching experience with demonstrative results
  • Experience teaching piano students of various ages
  • Seasoned  performer and accompanist
  • Ability to teach group lessons 
The ideal candidate will love working with children; be well organized and able to set priorities  take imitative; be self-directed and work well in a collaborative work model.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed as well.

Residential Life Coordinator - 2013-2014 School Year

Ashley Hall seeks a Residential Life Coordinator for the 2013-2014 school year. The International House will provide a boarding experience for 16 international students attending Ashley Hall at the secondary level.  

The Residential Life Coordinator will live in the International House and will report directly to the International Coordinator.

The Residential Life Coordinator will work with the students to maintain focus on their studies, assist with study skills, motivate students, and assist in building a sense of achievement.

Duties

  • Supervise students to insure their safety and well-being 24 hours a day 
  • Build and maintain collegiality and teamwork with the International Coordinator
  • Assist in planning, organizing and implementing recreational, social and cultural events and activities
  • Maintain discipline and balanced relations in the residence hall and other areas of the program
  • Ensure general hall maintenance and cleanliness
  • Supervise students during their home study time
  • Participate in all field trips, residential life and recreational activities
  • Monitor and evaluate students' academic and social progress
  • Transport students to and from campus and other activities
  • Maintain primary management of the supervisory schedule with alternate Resident Advisors 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience supervising adolescents in a residential setting preferred
  • Possess or be eligible to possess a SC Drivers License 
  • Possess strong leadership skills
  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills
  • Possess good organizational skills

Classics Instructor - 2013-2014 School Year

Ashley Hall is seeking candidates for a full-time position as a Classics instructor for grades seven and eight. Qualified candidates should have a Masters degree in either Latin or Greek with a strong minor in the other language as well knowledge of Ancient Mediterranean history, literature and culture. Candidates should also have a minimum of five years prior teaching experience, preferably in an independent school environment.

Technology Instructor (Part-Time) - 2013-2014 School Year

Ashley Hall is seeking candidates for a part-time position (60%) as a cross-curricular Technology Instructor to work with students in grades seven through twelve. Instruction will be integrated into existing mathematics and science curricula.

Credentials and qualifications:

Candidates should have a BA or BS degree, preferably with some emphasis on technology education.  Specific skills include demonstrated fluency with common business and educational software (MS Office, Photoshop, video editing) and LMS systems (Schoology) and should have successfully developed and deployed learning materials.  Prior classroom experience is desirable.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and delivering technical training sessions and workshops
  • Designing and teaching a full-time class
  • Working with a wide range of multimedia software including, audio, video, web, animation, and photo to develop materials for courses
  • Developing instructional web and media-based interactive learning objects (tutorials, demos, training modules)
  • Troubleshooting technical course design issues with faculty
  • Supporting an online learning management system
  • Basic hardware, software and network troubleshooting
  • Collaborating with co-workers, on departmental and school-wide projects
  • Designing and developing print and web based user documentation
  • Conducting software training sessions for students
  • Engages in ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the informational and instructional technology planning, program, and staff development. 
  • Serves as source of information on trends, research, applications, and effective practices related to technology use in the school program. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Mathematics Instructor Upper School - 2013-2014 School Year

Ashley Hall, an independent school for girls located in historic Charleston, SC, seeks qualified candidates for a full time mathematics instructor for the Upper School (grades 7-12). Applicants should be capable of teaching the full range of courses from Algebra to Calculus, including Geometry. Familiarity with STEM programs and interdisciplinary studies is desirable. Additional
qualifications include five or more years of secondary school teaching experience (independent school experience preferred) and at least a Master's degree in Mathematics. Ashley Hall prizes teachers who are collaborative, flexible, and committed to differentiated instruction in the classroom.
