EEC Language Arts

Basic literacy and a sheer love of language is Ashley Hall's language arts goal for pre-primary through pre-kindergarten students.

Children's literature is shared daily, exposing students to rhyme, rhythm and different literary genres as well as helping each child develop a rich vocabulary. Teachers use a guided sequence of graduated exercises to help children acquire basic literacy skills, including helping ease the transition from understanding oral language to the mastering the written word, which requires attention to both cognitive processes and essential motor skills. EEC teachers use multiple strategies, including Open Court Language Arts and Handwriting Without Tears as part of our Language Arts program. Throughout these crucial formative years, the Rivers Library facilities and staff help introduce our youngest students to the rich world of words and books.
