Upper School Academic ClubsSpanish Club - for 7th thru 12th Grade - Mrs. Hall & Mrs. Van DyckClub members must be currently enrolled in Spanish. The Spanish Club participates in service projects in our community and also helps organize drives on campus. Members have the opportunity to attend dinners and movie nights. The Spanish Club participates in the Hispanic Festival and Halloween Carnival. French Club for 7th and 8th grade - Sponsor, Mrs. Critikos Club members do not have to speak French. Join us for good French food, good French movies and cool t-shirts. Le Cercle Francais for 9th thru 12th grade - Sponsor, Mrs. Decker Club members do not have to speak French. Mathletes Math Team for 9th thru 12th grade – Sponsor, Ms. Flesher Math Club is open to anyone who enjoys math and wants to have fun solving challenging problems! There will be a competitive team selected that will travel to meets in the Winter and Spring. Art Club for 7th, 8th and 9th grade - Sponsor, Mrs. Edge This year, Art Club members will visit local galleries, discuss favorite artists & do in-studio projects. Drama Club for 7th thru 12th grade – Sponsors, Mrs. Libkin & Mrs. Jones Drama Club members will share their love of theatre while participating in improv games, attending plays and musicals and supporting the Ashley Hall drama program and productions. Photography Club for 9th thru 12th grade– Sponsor, Ms. Andrews Club members will learn about the history of photography and artists who have impacted the world of photography. They will learn tips and techniques to develop photography skills, provide stock photos to school publications, and showcase their work at year’s end. Swing Choir for 7th thru 12th grade - Sponsor, Mrs. Libkin Students audition for the opportunity to participate in this choral group. Literary Club for 9th thru 12th grade - Sponsors, Mrs. Hughes and Ms. Smith Members read and discuss advanced literature. Debate Team for 7th thru 12th grade – Sponsors, Ms. W. Smith & Mrs. Cohen Discover the fine art of debate as you develop and improve your communication skills. Some members may participate in competitions. Athletic Board for 7th thru 12th grade– Sponsor, Mrs. Vaughn Provide support to all AH athletics through pep rallies, cheers, Spirit Days, game themes and attendance at events. Pep Squad for 7th thru 12th grade – Sponsors, Ms. Rhett & Mrs. Ward Take your school spirit to another level as you work with others to develop cheers and dance routines designed to energize athletes and fans at sporting events! Go Panthers! Running Club for 7th thru 12th grade - Sponsors, Mrs. Ward & Ms. Ciany Students meet and run together for fitness and rejuvenation! Riding Club for 7th thru 12th grade – Sponsor, Mrs. Kendall Jordan Students plan various equestrian events, such as the Ashley Hall Horse Show, and other activities that celebrate their passion for horses. Compass Rose Mariners for 9th thru 12th grade - Sponsor, Dr. Davis Membership is open to any student who has been on the Spirit voyage or who has previously applied to the program. Members will volunteer for Spirit/Maritime Center events, keep an archive of Spirit trips, and support current AH crew members. Student Ambassadors for 7th thru 12th grade - Sponsor, Ms. Ozburn Student Ambassadors work as representatives of Ashley Hall through the Admissions Office. Ambassadors pair up with visiting students, give tours to interested families and attend Open House events held on the evenings and weekends. Social Committee for 9th thru 12th grade - Sponsor, Ms. Wood Club members plan, organize and coordinate dances and social events, such as the Fall Dance & Winter Formal. Children in Need for 7th thru 12th grade – Sponsor, Ms. Rhett Children in Need members are dedicated to improving the lives of children in our local and global community. Green Club for 7th thru 12th grade– Sponsors, Mrs. Ward & Ms. Sill Green Club is meant to educate the Ashley Hall population about environmental awareness as well as getting involved in local green initiatives. PALS Club for 7th thru 12th grade - Sponsor, Ms. Wood Members plan and enjoy various social events with girls and boys in our community who live with disabilities. Members also support local advocacy groups like the Down Syndrome Association and the Disabilities Board. Baking Society for 9th thru 12th grade – Sponsor, TBA Members of this society share their love of baking by exploring techniques and recipes and creating delicious treats! Baking takes place on and off campus. Human Condition Club for 9th - 12th grade– Ms. Webb, Ms. K. Smith & Mr. Muti Members watch and discuss a variety of interesting and thought provoking films and discuss past and current events from around the world that speak to the reality of the human condition. Community Action Club for 9th thru 12th grade – Sponsor, Ms. Wood Members will cultivate, correlate and communicate CAI events in our community! Culture Club for 7th thru 12th grade – Sponsor, Ms. Landvater Culture Club explores various international countries as well as the US and their unique cultures. It offers an opportunity to familiarize the students with the habits, attitudes, languages and foods of other people, past and present. The club meets once a month and will attempt to visit ethnic restaurants, view movies and play games such as bad mitten and ping-pong. Some members will also have access to Rosetta Stone. The club is so excited to explore the many cultures of Charleston and around the world! Flourish Club for anyone age 16 and up – Sponsor, Mrs. Edge Members work as volunteers with MUSC to design and make custom cloche hats for girls currently experiencing hair loss as a result of cancer treatment. Future City Club for 7th and 8th grade - Sponsors – Mrs. Wilkins, Mrs. Kainz, & Mrs. Laval The Future City Club is open to all 7th and 8th graders who would like to design a city 150 years in the future with a population of at least 50,000 people, then enter your “city” in a competition in January. The students would use Sim City software to design their city, and make a 3-dimensional model of part of their city. An essay and narrative are written to explain your city, and an oral presentation is given at the competition. This year’s theme is Fuel Your Future: Imagine new ways to meet our energy needs and maintain a healthy planet.
