About Ashley Hall: South Carolina’s One and Only All Girls’ School

Our Mission

From its founding by Mary Vardrine McBee in 1909, Ashley Hall has remained faithful to its original mission: To produce educated women who are independent, ethically responsible, and prepared to meet the challenges of society with confidence. This mission is realized in everything we do, from campus traditions to our innovative curricula and teaching philosophy. It inspires both faculty and students to engage in a vitally enriching educational community. From boys 2 years to 5 years and girls 2 years to twelfth grade, our curricula, instructional methods, co-curricular programs, and facilities are designed to foster in all of our students, at every stage of their development, those qualities of mind and character implicit in our mission statement.

Ashley Hall Hallmarks

There are seven Hallmarks that personify an Ashley Hall student, habits of mind and action they strive to cultivate in themselves and one another namely, to be intelligent, creative, compassionate, discerning, collaborative, purposeful, and worldly.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging

We celebrate that our community is built on the strengths and talents of every student, teacher, parent, alumna, and staff member, and that every individual in the Ashley Hall community has a unique and valuable contribution to make to our collective pursuit of integrity and academic excellence. We believe that our differences contribute to a more purposeful campus discourse that honors and includes many perspectives and that an authentic sense of belonging depends on building a culture of agency, trust, and respect. Furthermore, we assert that diversity that is inclusive and woven into the fabric of our School is essential to achieving educational and academic excellence. Thus, we strive to cultivate a community that values and embodies inclusivity, equity, respect, belonging, and engagement. Click on the button below to read the full statement.

An All-Girls' Education

Ashley Hall is the Only All-Girls’ Independent Private School in South Carolina

As the only all-girls’ independent private school in South Carolina, Ashley Hall is uniquely positioned. Our exceptional program is intentionally tailored to the way girls learn best—through collaboration, discussion, and individualized attention.

Considering a school FOR girls instead of a school WITH girls?

  • Does your daughter’s current school encourage her to find her voice?
  • Does your daughter’s school inspire girls to pursue their passion even in areas traditionally dominated by men?
  • Do the girls in your daughter’s school hold leadership positions? Are they class president? Are they the editor-in-chief of the yearbook?
  • Do they value girls’ athletic teams as much as the boys teams?

Traditions

The School’s ongoing stability is derived in large part from a continuity of campus culture rich in tradition and a respect for the past which steadies our stance in the present and enables us to plan for the future with confidence in our ability to, in the words of our school prayer, “know that which is worth knowing, to love that which is worth loving…with true judgment to distinguish things that differ….” Our resolve is further buttressed by our collective dedication to the Ashley Hall Hallmarks, habits of mind and action which all of us at Ashley Hall—students, teachers, staff, parents, and alumnae—strive to cultivate in ourselves: to be intelligent, creative, compassionate, discerning, collaborative, purposeful, and worldly.
